Note the way that this tourist -- or might he be called more accurately a post-tourist? -- cannily disrupts the boundaries between ethnography and tourism. He seems to understand his part in the social drama, and yet seeks to occupy both the terrain of the backstage and the frontstage, thus blurring the boundaries between the two. This interview begs questions of the tourist gaze: Who is doing the looking? What is being seen? And will the camera be broken?
